Operations

Jean-Claude Golvin’s work, with its vast volume and variety of subjects and eras, caters to audiences of all ages and lends itself to numerous applications.

Although each restitution is based on solid scientific and cultural documentation and knowledge, the artist also contributes to public archaeology. Therefore, no prior knowledge is required to appreciate his creations and learn more about our history.

Books, documentaries, permanent or temporary exhibitions, video games, illustrations for articles or magazines—each year, his work is adapted into hundreds of formats around the world.

Exhibitions

Jean-Claude Golvin typically participates in one exhibition per year, with some dedicated entirely to his work. Notably, the exhibition titled "Dévoiler Nemausus - Jean-Claude Golvin, un architecte et des archéologues," held at the Musée de la Romanité in Nîmes from December 2022 to March 2023, was entirely focused on him. The first exhibition solely dedicated to his work took place at the Museum of Leiden (Netherlands) in 1990.

However, Jean-Claude Golvin often participates in these exhibitions as an expert in graphic restitution and a former CNRS researcher. His artistic talent is as recognized as his research work. Numerous museums, both in France and abroad, seek his expertise, primarily to reconstruct a city or monument from a specific period, but also to illustrate scenes of daily life. For example, in the exhibition "Vivre et mourir en Égypte, d'Alexandre le Grand à Cléopâtre," presented at the Musée d'Aquitaine in Bordeaux from June to November 2024, Jean-Claude created a frieze of six works depicting the Fayoum (Egypt) and its inhabitants.

Each piece in the MooM’s collections holds a unique message and style to be considered by the viewer, offering a historical reference to the diversity of art within the present time. This is truly a growing tribute to the talent and creativity we find in.

Books and Articles

Jean-Claude Golvin’s restitutions are used worldwide by various publishers and journals. Today, there are no fewer than 200 articles and books where Jean-Claude has contributed as an author, co-author, or illustrator. When including books and journals that have featured his work without his direct involvement in writing, this number can easily be tripled.

Jean-Claude’s contribution is significant to both the research and media worlds. His works are commissioned by major newspapers for articles dedicated to specific cities or themes.

Currently, he has authored or co-authored more than twenty published books, mostly with Éditions Errance & Picard and later Actes Sud. Some of these are translated into multiple languages (English, Chinese, etc.). Among them, the best-selling book is L'Antiquité retrouvée, published in 2003, with its 5th edition released in 2023.

Video Games

In addition to the traditional use of his works, Jean-Claude Golvin has had the opportunity to see his art featured in new media.

In 2015, he was approached by the video game studio Ubisoft and provided numerous works for the game Assassin's Creed Origins, released in 2017, which recreates Ptolemaic Egypt. This game became one of the bestsellers in the video game industry, with around 200 million copies sold worldwide as of 2022. He also contributed to the "Discovery Tour," an educational game. Jean-Claude was once again called for the creation of *Assassin's Creed Valhalla*, which was released in 2020.

Conferences and Symposia

Jean-Claude Golvin’s research has led him to deliver numerous lectures and participate in scientific conferences. On average, he gives around two public lectures per year. His role as the director of the Franco-Egyptian Center for the Study of the Karnak Temples allowed him to participate in many international symposia alongside other Egyptologists. Jean-Claude has also written numerous articles for the Institut de France (Académie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres).

After returning to France, he attended the International Congress of Archaeology on North Africa and has regularly participated in the International Symposia at the University of Caen. Jean-Claude Golvin has supervised several doctoral theses and has been a member of various examination committees.
