Aerial view of Xanthos, 2nd c. The drawing is unfinished. The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink. Traces of watercolor are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The town is located in the Xanthe valley. It lies within a fortified enclosure, punctuated by towers and pierced by gates. A lone temple stands in the lower part of the drawing, the Roman acropolis. A road lined with porticoes runs the length of the city. The Roman agora is located at the end of this road. It is overlooked by a theater. On the heights of the city, an enclosure contains a temple. The thermal baths can be seen on the left-hand side of the picture. The Aegean Sea can be seen on the horizon.
