Front view of the Sed festival rite, depicted on the tomb of Kheruef in Thebes (Luxor). The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within an untraced frame. The drawing sheet is glued to another sheet containing the caption.
The scene is divided in two. On the right is the erection of the Djed pillar. This is probably the last phase of the Sed festival. The pharaoh, recognizable by his kepresh, is assisted by priests. Together, they raise an enormous Djed pillar, symbolizing stability and continuity. On the right, the king makes his offerings to Osiris-Djed, shown in front of him.
This is a representation of a tomb mural.
