Front view of the monumental gateway and ramparts of Tolosa (Toulouse). The drawing is in landscape format. It is framed in ink. Traces of watercolor and inscriptions are visible in the margins.
A necropolis develops in the foreground, in front of the entrance to the town. Tombs, sarcophagi and steles can be seen. A paved road, with several wagons and horsemen, leads to a monumental gate in the rampart. The gate consists of three arches of varying heights, enabling pedestrian and cart traffic.
They are surmounted by a gallery level and flanked by two crenellated towers.
