Front view of the construction site of the Thysdrus amphitheater (El Jem). The drawing is in portrait format. It is framed in ink. Traces of watercolor and inscriptions are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The drawing shows the construction of the different levels of the amphitheater’s galleries. Scaffolding is set up against the walls. On the ground, stonemasons refine the keystones for the arches. At the top of the building, a hoist is used to hoist the blocks into position on wooden hangers.
