Aerial view of the ancient city of Thysdrus (El Jem) in the 3rd century. The drawing is in landscape format and has no frame. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The town is located on a plain, amidst cultivated fields. The foreground shows the amphitheater during a performance. People are hurrying towards the building. It comprises three levels of arcaded galleries and an attic. The velum is being deployed. The circus is in the lower right-hand corner of the drawing. You can make out the tiers and the ring. The theater and forum are located in the center of the city, in the midst of residential areas.
