Aerial view of the venationes in the amphitheater of Thysdrus (El-Jem). The drawing is in landscape format. It is framed in ink. Traces of watercolor and inscriptions are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The scene depicts the venationes taking place in the amphitheater arena. Scenic backdrops and trapdoors are set up on the track. Wild animals emerge. Lions, lionesses, panthers, wild boars, bears and deer stand out. They are fought by venatores, dressed in white tunics and armed with spears.
