Presentation :

Aerial view of the temple at Thebes (Louqsor) under Ramses II, during the Opet festival. The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink. Traces of watercolor and inscriptions are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The temple is located in the immediate vicinity of the Nile, visible on the right-hand side of the drawing. It is set within a fortified brick enclosure. A pylon, flanked by two obelisks, opens onto a first courtyard with porticoes. This courtyard is linked to a second porticoed courtyard by a high rectangular covered room. The second courtyard leads to a hypostyle hall and the sanctuary. On either side of the temple are the temple storehouses, the priests’ dwellings and the sacred lake. In the foreground, the Opet festival procession. Two boats, the boat of Amun and the royal boat, are moored along the shore. Cheered by the crowd, the procession enters the temple.
