Frontal view of the Olympian gods. The drawing is in landscape format. It is framed in ink. Traces of watercolor and inscriptions are visible in the margins. An aerial view drawing appears on the reverse. It is thought to be the lower part of the drawing of Thebes on the reverse of GOL.2011.1032.
The gods appear in the heavens above the clouds and Mount Olympus, visible in the lower part of the drawing. Above them, medallions represent the different signs of the zodiac (from Aries to Pisces). The gods are lined up in a frieze, holding their attributes. Ares is shown with his spear, helmet, shield and armor. Hephaestus hands Achilles’ weapons to Thetis. Athena is dressed in aegis and helmet, and holds a spear and shield in her hand. Hermes is shown with caduceus, petascus, winged sandals and purse. Above Olympus sits Zeus. He holds a scepter and a thunderbolt. An eagle sits at his feet. He is accompanied by Hera. She wears the diadem and scepter. Three graces are depicted at their feet. Poseidon is shown on a wave, holding the trident in his hands. Aphrodite sits on a swan. Apollo is crowned with laurel. Finally, Artemis shoots an arrow with her bow. She carries a quiver. A dog accompanies her.
