Aerial view of the fortress of Bouhen in Sudan (formerly Nubia) during the Middle Kingdom. The drawing is in landscape format and has no frame. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The fort stands on the banks of the Nile, visible in the central part of the drawing. It consists of a double, stepped wall reinforced by towers and ditches. Two fortified gates provide access to the fort’s interior. On the other side of the river, an oasis extends into an arid landscape.
