Presentation :

A bird’s-eye view of Tartarus (the Underworld). The drawing is in landscape format. It is framed in graphite, watercolor and gold ink. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
In the foreground, a hole in the rock reveals a path leading to the prison, surrounded by the Phlegethon, the river of liquid fire. The building is also protected by a triple enclosure. A monumental gate leads inside. Beyond, an alleyway leads to the interior of Tartarus.
The drawing was produced for an exhibition at Lyon’s Gallo-Roman Museum in 2009-2010.
