Aerial view of the Semna and Kumma fortresses in Sudan (ancient Nubia). The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink. Traces of watercolor are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The two fortresses are separated by the Nile, which flows through the center of the drawing. On the left is the fortress of Kumma and on the right, that of Semna. Both are built high up on rocky outcrops. Both are protected by a brick wall of towers.
