Aerial view of the Sanxay sanctuary. The drawing is in landscape format and has no frame. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The sanctuary is located on the banks of the Vonne River. The temple is built inside a square courtyard surrounded by a colonnaded portico, visible in the lower part of the drawing. The octagonal cella is bordered by a Greek cross-shaped ambulatory. Around the temple, there are pools and a tholos. Thermal baths are located nearby. They can be identified by the smoke emanating from them, which proves the presence of furnaces used to heat the air and water for the baths. On the other side of the river lies the amphitheatre. Its semicircular cavea is enclosed by a stage wall (frons scaenae).
