Aerial view of medieval Rouen. The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink. Traces of watercolor are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The town is located on the right bank of the Seine, shown in the lower part of the drawing, with several stone bridges crossing the river. It is protected by a vast fortified wall, punctuated by towers and gates. The city’s commercial activities are concentrated on its banks. The port is visible on the left of the drawing. Boats are moored here. A number of religious buildings stand among the houses. The Gothic cathedral of Notre-Dame, with the church of Saint-Maclou behind it, and the abbey church of Saint-Ouen, set back a little, can be seen near the quays. Mountains can be seen in the distance.
