Aerial view of the Circus Maximus in Rome. The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink. Inscriptions and traces of watercolor are visible in the margins.
The building is located in the heart of the city. It consists of a vast track divided in two by the spina, around which the chariots ran. It features basins and obelisks. On the left are the carceres. The drawing shows the trajectory lines of the chariots. The Arch of Titus stands on the right. It will allow the winner to pass at the end of the race. The track is surrounded by bleachers for spectators and the imperial box. The domus Flavia and domus Augustana can be seen in the background.
