Presentation :

Aerial view of the Palace of Maxentius and its circus in Roma (Rome). The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink. Only part of the lower margin remains.
The villa and circus are located along the Via Appia, visible in the lower left-hand corner. Along the road, a circular building can be seen. This is the mausoleum of Caecilia Metella. On the left stands the tomb of Romulus (son of Maxentius). It consists of a square courtyard, bordered by a portico, inside which is a round temple. It is flanked by the circus. Several rows of bleachers surround the arena and the spina. To the rear, Maxentius’s palace is built. It is organized around a vast garden. The temple of Ceres and Faustina can be seen in the distance.
