Aerial view of the construction of a temporary wooden amphitheater on the Forum Romanum in Rome in 179 BC. The drawing is in landscape format. It is arranged within a frame drawn in ink. Inscriptions and traces of watercolor, ink and graphite are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The drawing depicts the construction of Caesar’s wooden amphitheater in the Roman Forum, adjacent to the Basilica Sempronia. The latter is illustrated in the upper part of the drawing, to the left of the Temple of Saturn. The Comitium is on the lower right.
