View of the choir of the Basilica of Reims during the coronation of a king. The drawing is in landscape format. It is framed in ink. Traces of watercolor are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The scene takes place in the choir of the Basilica of Saint-Rémi in Reims. The choir is bordered by a huge, elaborate rood screen in the Gothic style. The space is adorned with fleur-de-lys hangings. The coronation of the king takes place in front of the altar, in the presence of the princes of France and members of the clergy. The cantors stand on the stalls. The archbishop places the crown on the king’s head.
