Aerial view of Rapidum (Sour Djouab), early 3rd c. The drawing is in landscape format. It is arranged within a frame drawn in ink. Traces of watercolor and inscriptions are visible in the margins.
The town is set on a plain. Dwellings and workshops are protected by a fortified enclosure with gates. A military camp is located to the north-east of the city, in the lower right-hand section of the drawing. Inside a quadrangular, crenellated wall bordered by a moat, barracks, staff buildings, the commander’s quarters and thermal baths are located. The Atlas Mountains can be seen in the distance.
