Aerial view of the port of Puteoli (Pozzuoli). The drawing is in portrait format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink along its upper and lower edges. Traces of watercolor are visible in the margins. Inscriptions are present on the reverse.
The city’s harbor opens onto the Mediterranean Sea. It comprises a series of basins, a jetty and numerous warehouses. Ships are moored in the harbor. The city is organized in the upper part of the drawing. The theater and amphitheater can be seen at the top of the city. They are flanked by a temple to their left and thermal baths to their right. The Temple of Serapis can be seen below. The stadium is set back. Vesuvius rises in the distance.
