Aerial view of Ostia (Ostia) and its port. The drawing is in landscape format and has no frame. Inscriptions are present on the reverse.
The city of Ostia is located at the mouth of the Tiber into the Mediterranean Sea, visible in the lower part of the drawing. A canal, the Fossa Traiana, links the Tiber to the sea. Claudius’ harbor and Trajan’s harbor are located on the north coast, on the left of the drawing. The former is enclosed by a dike, while the latter consists of a hexagonal basin lined with warehouses. Rome can be seen in the distance, beyond the cultivated plots.
