Presentation :

Front view of a room in the Vettii house in Pompeii, in the southeast corner of the peristyle. The drawing is in landscape format. It is composed of a superimposition of collages. The furniture, floor, curtain and figure are painted on drawing paper and then pasted onto a colorized photocopy representing the background of the room. The drawing is framed in a canson paper marie-louise. A sketch is on the back of the marie-louise. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The drawing represents the triclinium of the Vettii house in Pompeii. This room is decorated with murals featuring trompe-l’œil architectural decorations and mythological scenes. The birth of Hercules is depicted on the left wall. The child is shown taming snakes. The other wall depicts the death of Pentheus. The king is put to death by the Danaids. A curtain hangs across the room, closing the view on the right. The room is furnished with a low table and a colorful armchair on which are placed various musical instruments (bells, tambourine, lyre). A female figure is depicted from behind.
