Front view of a room in the Vettii house in Pompeii, located to the northeast of the peristyle. The drawing is in landscape format. It is composed of a superimposition of collages. The furniture and curtain are painted on drawing paper and then pasted onto a colorized photocopy representing the background of the room. The drawing is framed in a drawing-paper marie-louise. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The drawing represents the triclinium of the Vetti house in Pompeii. This room is decorated with murals featuring trompe-l’œil architectural decorations and mythological scenes. On the left wall, Daedalus presents Pasiphae with his wooden heifer mounted on wheels, in which she can hide. On the far wall, Juno watches as Mercury tortures Ixion in the presence of Vulcan, Iris and probably Nephele. The room is furnished with a bench and a small table with crockery. A curtain closes the scene on the left.
