Aerial view of Poitiers in medieval times. The drawing is in landscape format and has no frame. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The town sits on a promontory overlooking the Clain river. Several bridges cross the river. The town is surrounded by a fortified enclosure, punctuated by gates and towers. Only the amphitheater remains from ancient times. It is now occupied by housing. St. Peter’s Cathedral stands in the lower part of the town. Mountains can be seen in the distance.
