Presentation :

Bird’s-eye view of the Epagathiana horrea in Ostia. The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink. Traces of watercolor and inscriptions are visible in the margins.
The drawing shows a young woman at the window of her house, from which she can see the bustle of the shopping street. Opposite her, the city’s horrea is developing. A vast brick building rises up on several levels. Stores are set up on the first floor. A variety of goods are sold: meat, ceramics, etc. Above the stores are two levels of private dwellings. Passers-by, donkeys laden with merchandise and a wagon loaded with amphorae circulate in the middle of the street.
