Aerial view of Ostia (Ostia). The drawing is in landscape format and has no frame. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The city is located at the mouth of the Tiber into the Mediterranean Sea, visible in the upper part of the drawing. It is set within a fortified wall, punctuated by towers and pierced by gates. Along the river, port activity (river port) and trade developed. Several boats can be seen moored along the quays. The quays are lined with warehouses. The city is home to several thermal baths, distinguished by their domed, double-sloped roofs and the smoke emanating from them. The theater stands along the main axis. It is flanked by the Guild Square. This is a garden bordered by a portico, at the center of which stands a temple. The forum stands at the center of the design. The rectangular courtyard is framed by the temples of Augustus and Rome. The Temple of Hercules is nearby.
