Aerial view of the Nemausus amphitheater (Nîmes). The drawing is in portrait format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink. Traces of watercolor are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The amphitheater is set in the middle of the urban fabric. Elliptical in shape, it comprises two levels of arcaded galleries. Spectators are seated in the tiers of the cavea. The velum is not drawn. In the center of the arena, two gladiators, a retiaire and probably a secutor, are facing off under the watchful eye of a referee.
