Front view of a street on the island of Martigues. The drawing is in portrait format and has no frame. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The scene depicts activities in an alleyway. The dwellings consist of a single storey. In the foreground, amidst sheep and chickens, several women have gathered. The first is grinding grain with a millstone and stone wheel, the second is protecting an amphora with a rope, and the third is using a pestle. A little further on, two women revive a fireplace by bringing in faggots.
