Aerial view of the Vaise pottery workshop in Lugdunum (Lyon). The drawing is in landscape format. It is framed in ink. Inscriptions and traces of watercolor are visible in the margins.
The workshop is located on either side of a road crossed by carts and riders.
A circular potter’s kiln can be seen in the lower part of the drawing. A figure is feeding wood into the hearth. On the other side of the track is the workshop and warehouse, where numerous amphorae are stored ready for transport. Thick black smoke billows from the building. The building is flanked by a necropolis featuring a cylindrical mausoleum crowned by a tholos.
