Front view of the Gier aqueduct at Lugdunum (Lyon). The drawing is in portrait format. It is framed in ink. Inscriptions and traces of watercolor are visible in the margins.
In the foreground, two figures, each carrying a cucule, stroll along a dirt road in the rain. Behind them stands the aqueduct. It consists of a succession of semicircular stone arches.
The composition was inspired by a statuette in the Amiens museum and a mural in Trier.
