Frontal view of the old forum in Lugdunum (Lyon) under a thunderstorm. The drawing is in portrait format. It is framed in ink. Inscriptions and traces of watercolor are visible in the margins. Part of the lower margin has been cut off, but has been preserved.
The scene depicts the courtyard of the forum, where people are jostling each other in the rain. A bronze statue stands in front of the temple. It depicts Augustus as imperator with his finger raised. He wears a short tunic, a cuirass and the paludamentum. The depiction of Augustus was inspired by the statue of Augustus from Prima Porta in Rome’s Chiaramonti Museum.
