Aerial view of Hierapolis of Phrigia. The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink. Traces of watercolor and inscriptions are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The city is located at the top of the Pamukkale hill. It is built on either side of a road that runs the length of the town. On the far left is the necropolis. The thermal baths are located at the entrance to the city, on the left of the drawing. They are flanked by a vast courtyard bordered by a portico, the agora. Along the main axis, two nymphaeums and the Temple of Apollo can be seen. A large spa is located nearby. The city has two theaters, one within the urban fabric, the other on the outskirts of the city, on the slopes of the mountain. Agricultural fields grow in the lower part of the drawing. A mountain range can be seen in the distance.
