Aerial view of the Temple of Amun at Hibis (Kharga). The drawing is in portrait format. It is organized within a frame drawn in graphite and partially erased. Traces of watercolor are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
Access to the temple is via a landing stage on the shore of a lake. A sphinx dromos leads to Ptolemy II’s gate, which pierces the first sacred enclosure, containing a sacred lake. A second enclosure leads to a forecourt, where two obelisks stand, and gives access to the temple, consisting of a courtyard adorned with a kiosk and a covered sanctuary. Secondary buildings are located in the surrounding area.
