Aerial view of the south-western quarter of Herculaneum (Herculaneum). The drawing is in landscape format. Traces of watercolor are visible in the margins. Inscriptions are visible on the reverse.
The neighborhood is located near the seaside with its black sand beaches. In the square, you can see the vaults under which the inhabitants took shelter during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The district is built on several terraces. The first, on the left, features a sacred area with a temple dedicated to the four deities and another to Venus. On the right is a square with an altar and a statue of Nonius Balbus. On the right is a square with an altar and a statue of Nonius Balbus. You can see the thermal baths, then a terrace with several domus: the domus de l’Auberge, the domus de l’Atrium, the domus des Cerfs and the domus de la Gemme.
