Presentation :

Aerial view of the Temple of Bacchus and the Temple of Jupiter in Heliopolis (Baalbek). The drawing is in landscape format. It is framed in ink. Traces of watercolor and inscriptions are visible in the margins.
The two temples stand side by side. The Temple of Bacchus is on the left of the drawing. An aisle leads to an altar in front of which stands the octostyle temple. It is built on a podium, accessible by stairs. Its façade is composed of eight Corinthian columns supporting a triangular pediment, with a tympanum decorated with bas-reliefs. Acroteria and statues decorate the corners of the roof. The Temple of Jupiter is shown on the right. This is a decastyle temple. Its façade features ten Corinthian columns surmounted by a triangular pediment, with a tympanum decorated with bas-reliefs. Built on a podium, the temple is preceded by a first square courtyard, lined with porticoes, and a second hexagonal courtyard, or sacrificial courtyard, opened by a raised portico.
