Presentation :

Aerial view of the Forum Julii (Fréjus) in the 2nd century. The drawing is in landscape format and has no frame. Inscriptions are visible on the reverse.
The town stands at the center of the drawing. It is built within a fortified wall and faces the sea. Boats are moored in the harbor or plying the waters. Two huge domus stand on either side of the harbor. The forum is located not far from the quays, below the intersection of the cardo (north-south axis) and decumanus (east-west axis). It comprises a rectangular courtyard with a portico, a temple and a basilica.
Along the decumanus is the theater. Following this axis, the aqueduct enters the city to supply it with water. The amphitheatre is located outside the city walls, in the upper left-hand corner of the drawing. Military installations are located near the necropolis. The buildings are organized within a rectangular fortified enclosure.
