Aerial view of the theater and sanctuary at Epomanduodurum (Mandeure). The drawing is in landscape format. It is framed in ink. Traces of watercolor are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The theater and sanctuary stand close to a marshy area and the Doubs River, visible in the lower left-hand corner. They are enclosed in a quadrangular enclosure. The sanctuary consists of a temple surrounded by a portico. The complex is surrounded by an elliptical perimeter wall, opened by two monumental gates. A tholos is nearby. In the upper part of the drawing is the theater with its semi-circular cavea. Outside, the stage wall (frons scaenae) is composed of two levels of arcades. Outside the enclosure, we can make out the thermal baths and part of the city.
