Presentation :

Aerial view of Epomanduodurum (Mandeure). The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink. Traces of watercolor are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The town lies in the middle of a hilly landscape, with the Doubs River running through it. In the foreground, to the south of the town, the faubourg de l’Escarté, a craft district, is developing. Several potters’ workshops with their kilns, lined with ceramics, can be seen. In the background, the town lies along the river. Harbour activity can be seen in the various boats moored on the quays. The city is dominated by the theater. Next to it, a sanctuary and the forum. White smoke marks the site of the thermal baths. In the distance, you can see green hills.
