Front view of the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus (Ephesus). The drawing is in landscape format. It is framed in ink. Traces of watercolor and inscriptions are visible in the margins.
The sacrificial altar can be seen in the foreground. Several figures are gathered there. The temple stands behind it. It stands on a multi-stepped stylobate. Its façade is composed of eight Ionic columns. The column shafts are adorned with historiated bas-reliefs. The columns support a pediment, and the tympanum is decorated with reliefs. Acroteria adorn the corners of the roof. The pronaos gives access to the naos, at the far end of which stands the statue of Artemis.
