Aerial view of Ephesus (Ephesus) from the upper agora. The drawing is in landscape format. It is framed in ink. Traces of watercolor and inscriptions are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The upper agora stands in the lower part of the drawing. It consists of a courtyard lined with porticoes, at the far end of which is a temple. Domitian’s temple overlooks the square. The square is flanked on the right by the prytaneum, seat of the city’s government, and an odeon. In the distance, the lower agora can be seen, surrounded by the library of Celsus, the temple of Serapis and the theater. The Roman agora, gymnasium and thermal baths line the porticoed road leading to the port. The sea and mountains can be seen in the distance.
