Aerial view of Divodurum Mediomatricorum (Metz). The drawing is in landscape format and has no frame. A sketch and inscriptions are present on the reverse.
Situated between several waterways, the city was developed within a fortified enclosure, doubled in the lower part of the drawing. The entire length of the city is crossed by an aqueduct, which feeds the thermal baths on the left. The forum stands amidst the residential areas. It comprises a courtyard surrounded by a colonnaded portico, a temple and the basilica. An amphitheatre was built between the two lines of ramparts. A second amphitheater was built outside the city, in the upper part of the drawing. The port area and its warehouses are located in the lower part, at the level of the peninsula.
