Longships and galleys come in from the open sea to lay siege to the city. On the decks of the ships, men stand ready for battle or row together to reach the shore. The town can be seen in the distance. It is built within a fortified enclosure. Among the buildings is the Basilica of Saint Sophia. The scene unfolds under a glowing sky.
