Aerial view of Chesters Fort and Hadrian’s Wall. The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink along its top and right edges. Traces of watercolor are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The fort is located not far from a river. It is built within a fortified enclosure, surrounded by a moat and pierced by gates. The rectangular buildings are arranged in blocks. In the center are the stables and the commander’s quarters. Hadrian’s Wall crosses the fort and the river, and continues in the distance on the other bank. The village lies nearby. Not far from the bridge are the thermal baths.
