Presentation :

Aerial view of Punic Carthage before 146 BC. The drawing is in portrait format and has no frame. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The city is located on the Mediterranean coast, visible in the upper part of the drawing. It is surrounded by a fortified wall with battlements and towers. The city’s two harbors, one commercial, the other military, are clearly visible. The first is rectangular in shape. Two towers line the entrance to the channel. The second port is circular. It is composed of loggias of ships arranged around the admiral’s command post, located on a central islet. Boats are moored here. At the center of the drawing is the large public square of the agora. It is crowded with people. In the foreground, the enclosure protecting the temple of Eshmoun is not visible.
