Aerial view of the Villa Jovis in Capri. The drawing is in landscape format and has no frame. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
Emperor Tiberius’ residence was built on a rocky spur overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The villa consists of a massive quadrangular building, organized around a peristyle. The lower level houses the cisterns. The upper level houses the imperial apartments and thermal baths. The building is bordered by terraced gardens. The Torre del Faro can be seen below. The Bay of Naples and Vesuvius can be seen in the distance.
