Aerial view of the Porte Saint-Eloi in Bordeaux in the 15th c. The drawing is in landscape format. It is framed in ink, except on the right-hand side. Traces of watercolor, ink and graphite are visible in the margins. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The drawing depicts one of the city’s gates, the Porte Saint -Eloi, with the drawbridge lowered. Many people enter and leave the city through this passageway. The gate consists of six towers; the two towers on the town side house a bell.
