Presentation :

Frontal view of the activities of a basket-making district. The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink. Traces of watercolor and inscriptions are visible in the margins.
The scene depicts the artisanal activities of a basket-making district. Craftsmen are making basketry of all kinds: baskets, baskets, wagon manne. A workshop can be seen on the left. Various baskets are placed on shelves. In the background, a woman in a tunic, accompanied by her child, carries an amphora dressed in wicker. Behind her, a figure is carrying straw bundles.
The wickerwork is inspired by the bas-reliefs of Sens, while the craftsmen are inspired by the mosaics of Saint-Romain-en-Gal. The woman in tunic is based on the stele in the Musée de Bordeaux.
