Aerial view of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink. Traces of watercolor and inscriptions are visible in the (cut) margins.
The gardens are organized along the Euphrates, visible in the lower part of the drawing. They are located inside the city, which is enclosed by a fortified wall. They are laid out in terraced areas, with canals and ponds. The gardens are surrounded by the northern and southern royal palaces. The city and its residential buildings are located to the rear. The blue Gate of Ishtar can be seen.
