Aerial view of Augustodunum (Autun). The drawing is in landscape format and has no frame. Inscriptions appear on the reverse.
The town is set in rolling countryside, at the confluence of the Arroux and Accoron rivers. It is protected by a fortified wall, punctuated by towers and gates. The town has two decumani (east-west axes) leading to two staggered gates. The forum lies at the intersection of the cardo (north-south axis) and these two decumani. The theater and amphitheater are located along the eastern city walls, to the left of the drawing. A second theater is shown outside the city, in the lower right of the drawing. Cultivated fields grow around the city walls. Mountains are visible in the background.
