Presentation :

Aerial view of Argentorate (Strasbourg). The drawing is in landscape format. It is organized within a frame drawn in ink. Traces of watercolor, an arrow and inscriptions are visible in the margins.
The town is built on a bank of the Rhine in a marshy area, visible in the lower part of the drawing. The forum, consisting of a porticoed courtyard, a temple and a basilica, extends from the bridge over the river. A theater can be seen in the upper part of the drawing. The city is flanked on the right by a legionary camp, bounded by a moat and a fortified enclosure with several towers and four gates. The buildings are arranged in several blocks.
